Welcome to the 雨HUT wiki. For now, assume that the totality of [the sr.ht wiki](https://man.sr.ht/) applies here until further notice.

# FAQ

(Frequently-Asked by the guy I just made up)

## Why the name?

This place is run by ~aleteoryx, whose website is **a**leteoryx.**me**. ame! あめ! 雨!
雨 is Japanese for rain, and with the backend software being called SourceHut, rain-hut seemed like a good name.
This is also the reason for the tagline.

## Why SourceHut?

The admin is both a snob and tired of hosting large software projects.
The largest self-hosted git forges are bulky, messy pieces of software.
Many also give the admin some sort of bad vibe.

SourceHut is by no means a small project, but it is simple to host and significantly simpler on the frontend than any alternative.
The admin also likes that its email-based features essentially allow accountless contributions.

## What services are running?

- project hub
- git repos
- mercurial repos
- wikis (you're here right now!)
- mailing lists
- issue trackers

The subdomains have parity with sr.ht subdomains, e.g. `meta.sr.ht` == `meta.amehut.dev`.

## What's this thing running on, anyway?

A 2008 Dell Inspiron with 2 gigs of DDR2 and a Core 2 Duo.

Yep.

Pic coming soon!

## Anything else I should know?

The mailserver has some haphazard bits of configuration that might impact spam filtering.

The admin will fix it.

Eventually.

## Well that's probably fine, how do I sign up?

Right now? You don't.
If you know the admin, contact them off-of-here and ask for an account.
If you don't, you're SOL. Try regular SourceHut lol.
